Method II: Exporting File Systems via NFS

NFS provides a hook into the kernel's view of the file system from user space

Daemons can speak NFS with the kernel, and translate to another format

Not it's intended purpose, but it works well enough for some applications

Fairly portable, as many Unix-like operating systems support NFS

Typically NFS communication takes place over the loopback interface

Used by CFS, the Cryptographic File System

Utilizing CODA rather than NFS is a possibility
